Romance Weekly #lovewritechat

It’s Tuesday and you know what that means: Romance Weekly Blog Hop!

RW Banner

If you’re joining me from Meggan Connors then hello and welcome! 🙂

Now, let’s see what questions we have this week.

1. How often do you write?

5 days a week, usually for around 2-3 hours, though I am hoping to gradually increase the amount of hours I write.

I write Monday-Friday, and take weekends off, so as I can avoid burning out. But, if I am behind schedule then I will write on weekends too.

2. Do you think it’s important to your craft to write as much as you can, and as often as you can?

Yes, otherwise how would writers improve and discover new techniques? 😀 The way I try to develop my skill is by writing different things: short stories, fan fiction, blog posts, non-fiction and even poetry sometimes.

When I find new advice from another writer, I am always keen to try it out and see if it works for me. I keep a variety of notebooks scattered about that I can grab when an idea strikes, and I just jot down a scene or short story when I can, not just because it helps improve my writing, but also because it’s fun!

Kinda like how artists often do doodles or sketches. I think any little thing you can do helps 🙂

3. What is your opinion on the saying, ‘If you don’t write every day, you’re not a writer’?

I don’t believe that. Writers have to have a life too 😀 You’re a writer if you love to write, no matter how much you get to do it.

Another set of interesting questions this week, how would answer them?

Now let’s go check out what the fabulous Leslie Hachtel has to say in response.

  1. I admire you for having a schedule and knowing what suits your writing. I’m glad you get refreshed on the weekends and can come back to your story with a fresh eye.

  2. I have a similar schedule. I have Scrivener project totals include weekdays, not weekends. If I have something come up during the week that hinders my progress, I add writing time during the weekend to keep my pace up.

    • Yeah, if I miss a day of writing I will usually write on a weekend to make it up. I really don’t like falling behind 😀

Thank you so much for reading and commenting 🙂

  3. Mishka – your words about taking weekend off hit home. I used to try not to write on weekends, but find myself doing it more and more often. I never really understood the 24/7 nature of this job. Still try to not spend as much time at night. Everyone needs down time and reality TV.

    • I think it is really important to take a break, just so as you don’t get burnt out and can still enjoy what you do. If you flooded your life with it, it could easily turn into a chore rather than something you look forward to doing 😀

Thank you for reading and commenting 🙂

  4. I love that you have a schedule.

I try to write every day, but I allow myself breaks. Weekends tend to be my uninterrupted writing time, though. I write as long as the ideas are coming. When I draw a blank or get stuck, I take time off and write something else.

    Great post!

    • I usually take an elongated break from writing as well if I get stuck. Sometimes having time away from it can really bring back the creative flow 😀

Thank you for reading and commenting 🙂

  5. I enjoyed your answers, and I’m not surprised at all by your discipline when it comes to writing. Your planning/scheduling seems to be rubbing off on me, which is fabulous! 🙂

    • I do love a good schedule, though I am in awe of those people who can just do things when needed with no plan at all. That seems like a lot of freedom 😀

Thank you for the kind comment! 🙂

      • Finding what works for you is a great feeling, certainly makes things calmer 😀

Though you’ve had tons going on and you’ve still managed to post and write short fiction, I am amazed at how much you do!

      • I’m learning to plan! But it’s only the support of people like you that maintains my motivational levels – lately I’ve been feeling the burn. Not that I’ll give in 😉
